If you didn't attend the High Tea in Adin on March 13, you missed out on a spectacular event.
The Scarlet Plums of Big Valley (a chapter of the Red Hat Society) hosted a High Tea at the Adin Community Hall. Each table was set with a tea service for four, and each had some sentimental value. Some were family heirlooms passed from generation to generation and others were heirlooms in the making.
The Scarlet Plums invited three other Red Hat Society chapters to join the festivities: the Red Hot Hatters from Alturas, The Surprise Valley Starlet Scarlets, and the Scarlet Sirens of Burney, plus other local guests, making a total of 65 in attendance.
The affair began at 2 p.m. as a bevy of bonneted beauties arrived en masse; feathers and lace, flowers and frills - there was red and purple everywhere.
The food was prepared and served by the Big Valley Home Economics class, with Sharon Yonehara supervising. The students did a wonderful job and earned money towards a trip to Fresno . Not only was it a feast for the eyes, but for the tummy as well.
DonnaMae Monchamp, Queen Mother of the Scarlet Plums, introduced the other queen mothers who told a little about their groups and activities. Pink Hatter Sam Clark gave an uplifting, humorous talk, which was followed by some musical entertainment provided by Leah Sandberg and Jay Richno.
The Scarlet Plums wish to thank the folks that made the event so successful - Sam, Leah and Jay for their delightful entertainment, the Big Valley Home Economics class for their wonderful food and service, and the beautiful ladies who donned their scarlet and violet finery to attend the event. |
